Alaskan Expedition #2

The weather is definitely getting the best of us but we're hanging in there. Was able to snap a few photos on the two decent days we have had in the last 10.

Retreating glaciar

Deadly ice cravasses

Valley of 10,000 smokes. 100 years after an amazing volcanic eruption.

Copper rich soil.

Trekking

Heading to work - Sketchy landings seem to be a daily occurrence.

Took 20 minutes off... "borrowed" a wave runner and had attempted some wake boarding. Water temp 38 degrees, air temp 41 degrees.

New friends and old...

Today we reached the half way point of the trip... hope we can make it!!!

Alaskan Expedition - Part 1

It's been an amazing couple of weeks. On the move non-stop but seeing more of Alaska than I could have ever imagined. Feeling very very lucky.

We started in the North and for the next 7 weeks will be working our way south. Stop one was Gates of the Arctic National Park up in the arctic circle.

Our base camp cabin on Lake Takahula

The second stop was the small village of Rampart. From Rampart we spent 4 days floating the Yukon River. Spotted tons of Grizzly bear, Black bear and moose along the way.

Home for now

Fall has begun. Soon the river will freeze and this will all be white.

We ended our float in Tanana and are now on the third stop of the ten, on a small island of Nunivak in the Bering Sea. Nunivak has a population of about 150 and most of them are Cup'it (coopit) Eskimo. The people here are super friendly and we have made a bunch of friends.

I went 7 days without a shower. It was epic.
